A Season Taking Flight: Welcome Baby Audrey | Tallahassee newborn and family photographer

Baby number three always rocks the balance of things in a family. The parents are officially outnumbered. When babe #3 is also the first of the opposite gender, something special happens. It seems a new season is taking flight.

My own family experienced this change of seasons when our son joined us and his two big sisters. The time before he was born is marked in my mind as a distinctly different season in our family life.

The Clark family welcomed little Audrey to join her two big brothers. The photos of the three of them are some of my favorites.

This session also makes me think of one of my favorite songs from when my oldest daughter was born. Andrew Peterson writes some of the best and anytime I photograph a family welcoming a new baby girl, the lyrics of his song play through my head.  Here is a portion:

A Season Taking Flight

“And the leaves were turning gold and brown
And people came from miles around
To see her when she came to town
And then I turned and walked outside
And stood beneath an autumn sky
And felt a season falling
And a new one taking flight
My baby loves me so
She loves me as I am
She lifts her little hands
Her wish is my command
I’ll pick her up forever if I can.”
-Andrew Peterson/Randall Goodgame, My Baby Loves to Dance, from Slugs, Bugs, and Lullabies

Clark family, I pray that you love this new season of your family life.

What Is Lifestyle Newborn Photography?

I photographed the same extended family twice.

The first time, it rained. They were troopers about it. We had already scoped out a covered porch at the location just in case the weather had other ideas, and that porch became our backdrop. We made something beautiful out of what could have been a wash.

The second time, they came back with new additions. Beach house on Alligator Point. Grandparents out on the water with the grandchildren. Big group moments and smaller family units. Easy, relaxed, and real.

What I remember most about both sessions is the feeling at the end. A kind of collective exhale. Like everyone knew they had just done something that mattered and would keep mattering long after that day.

That is the thing about showing up even when the conditions are not perfect. The photos do not know it rained.

Five Spots. One Date. A setting that only looks like this for about three weeks out of the year.

I am not trying to manufacture urgency here. The blooms genuinely do not wait, and the calendar genuinely does not have room for everyone who wants a session this spring.

If your family has been on your to-do list for a while, now is a really good time to actually do something about it.

April 11 at Maclay Gardens. $275. A wardrobe guide, a focused session, and your images delivered in two weeks.
